A winter heating estimate is a warning sign, not a household bill. NorthEast News reports that Maine households using heating oil could spend an average of $2,939 this winter, compared with $1,664 last season. It is a regional projection; actual costs vary with home size, efficiency, weather, usage and local delivery prices.
MaineHousing is accepting applications for its 2026–27 Home Energy Assistance Program until funds run out or May 29, 2027. Crisis assistance starts November 1, and applicants must first apply for HEAP.
